Bethanchowk Hiking- Best place to hike near Kathmandu.

It has been a while since I have posted anything related to travel.
Today, I am going to share my hiking experience from Bethanchowk, Narayanthan.
Bethanchowk is a small beautiful village situated almost 22 kilometers south from Panauti.
After about 4 hours of hike form Dhunkharka, we can reach the top. There is a small temple and also a place to stay during the night- if you are willing to spend the night. Bethanchowk, Naranyanthan is  the highest hill among all the hills in Mahabharat range, situated at an altitude of about 3000 meter from the sea level. So, it is also known as- King of Hills.

view from the summit.

The place is quite exotic since we barely saw any people during our way to the top- except for few villagers who were cutting tress or collecting timber or rearing cattle.  There is a narrow motor-able road almost to the top- you just need to walk about 30 min to reach the top if you take any means of transportation. I think taking a good motorbike makes you journey quite thrilling and adventurous as well.  The place is crowded during the new-year and Falgun Purnima because many devotees come to worship the holy temple of Narayanthan during this very time. They stay all night performing several rituals and dances and the next morning, they worship the Narayanthan temple and return back.
The place is recognized for breathtaking sunrise and sunset added by the beautiful panoramic view of the mighty himalayas like Ganesh, Gaurishankar and may more. If the day is clear and less cloudy, you can even see some places of Terai like: Janakpur and Makwanpur.

During the month of February and March we can even see Rhododendron of various colors like: red, pink. While reaching to the top, we even saw snow patches scattered on various slopes of hills- which made our journey even more exciting.

 Suggestion:

Since the track is rocky, sloppy and slippery, it is recommended to wear a good hiking shoes.
The place is windy. Thus, it is recommended to wear a wind cheater.
Take some dry foods with you and a bottle filled with abundant water. You cannot find any settlement and also water once you start ascending from Dhunkharga.
For lunch, you can find several good and less expensive hotels at Dhunkharga. And the hotel-owners are welcoming people.
We had chicken rice just for Nrs. 150 and it was worth it.
